Chickens!

They have arrived!
Our sweet new special girls are here:)
We went to fetch them yesterday, they are 6 week old Hi Line (future) egg layers. Four are brown and white and only one is pure white. I love listening to the sweet little sounds that they make. They already have names and each child has chosen one for their own. They will love all of these chickens and I am sure these girls will grow up to be as tame as our last ones that we brought home. Our older ones are all mostly retired now and spend their days sand bathing and lying in the sun. As soon as these new ones are big enough, we will intergrate them with the others.
Having chickens has also been a wonderful learning experience for our children and our family, chickens are very entertaining to watch. They do such amazing things, the way they bask in the sun and follow us around the garden is wonderful. If you don't have chickens yet, I highly recommend them!
You can see our other chickens and their house here.
Today was an exceptionally rainy and cold day, I did manage to send in my submission for Rhythm of the Home online Magazine though, yay! I had such fun putting this creation together:)

Happy Monday everyone:)
Warmly
Linda

  1. Oh how sweet! I am really getting inspired to try and build a coop for next year, and to raise them as a family. I can not wait to see how this journey unfolds for you

  7. They are so adorable! We saw some teenager-ish chicks this weekend at the farm we visited, and Finn loved them so much. I wish our neighborhood didn't have an ordinance against farm animals. Next house we'll have some for sure!

  9. How exciting! I can't wait to meet our chicks and get started on this new adventure. And your chicken coop? Gorgeous! It's a far cry above our converted outhouse "Chicken Poop" :-)

  10. Oh I love chickens, I think that is what i miss most from our old home - it is so relaxing to watch chickens do their thing, dustbathing, foraging, just sitting in the sun. you are so lucky.

  12. Oh, those chicks are so cute! It must be fun having your own chickens. I would love to do that if I had a property where it was allowed. How sweet that the retired ladies follow you around the garden and take sand baths.

  14. Dear K,
Their eggs are white and light brown:)

  15. I love Aracuna and Americuna eggs - green and blue. But brown is wonderful, too. I think white is under appreciated in my world. My neighbor has so many eggs, she brings them to me every so often, and I delight to put them in a glass bowl in the refrigerator so that I can see all the color.
