Please welcome Dana from ColourSpun...
Natural Suburbia:
Tell us a little about how ColourSpun began and how long you have been dyeing yarn.
ColourSpun:
My first attempts at dyeing yarn were probably about 20 years ago when I tried to dye acrylic with food colouring and then with Lady dye – not very successfully. About 10 years ago I met Hazel Hele and she taught me the basics, I’ve been playing ever since. I started out dyeing just for my own knitting and soon I was dyeing for friends. I grew from there, my friends christened me “Oddballs” and I was known as that until last year I decided I needed to formalise my hobby and open for business, so that I could add my studio to the list of local yarn makers in my book. The name “Oddballs” was already taken and so ColourSpun came into being.
Natural Suburbia:
What inspires you to dye this beautiful yarn?
ColourSpun:
I love colour – and yarn and so putting colour on yarn was a natural step for me to take. My colour inspiration comes from everywhere. Its most often from nature but could come from pictures or photos in books or from the clothing on someone I may notice in the supermarket. I take huge delight in how people react to my yarn – that’s an inspiration too.
Natural Suburbia:
Do you sell your yarn both locally and internationally?
ColourSpun:
My yarn is sold both locally and internationally. I love having visitors to my studio but if it’s not possible to visit me there, my yarn can be found on my website – Colourspun or in my Etsy shop Colourspun and I will mail to anywhere.
Natural Suburbia:
I see you have a ColourSpun Ravelry group, what is your vision for this group?
ColourSpun:
I started the Ravelry group yesterday J . I hope that members of the group will be inspired by my yarn and each other and that through it we will all grow and develop and find happiness in our craft.
Natural Suburbia:
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with us today Dana.
