I put birdseed out earlier this week and my goodness! We have a whole flock of chipping sparrows that decend on our yard every day. Peppered throughout are some chickadees, a titmouse or two, and some lovely cardinals. It's such a joy to see them fluttering about.
ReplyDeleteAnother gorgeous post my friend. Your chicks are gorgeous, mine are still so young when I look at yours!! Can't believe that you are giving away this gorgeous yarn, spinning is such a time consuming thing to do!! Enjoy the week ahead. We have just gotten back from a lovely weekend of camping at Drakensville in the Berg :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! What a lovely color of yarn! We've been having so much fun watching our chickens in our yard this winter as well. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful yarn!
ReplyDeleteOh. Oh. The weaver. The color of her. And the ball, her nest. I've never really seen anything like her before. You'd be so disappointed in the birds we have - mostly brown. Like horses. But I love them. I guess, when the coloration is more - subtle - you learn to glory in the little bit there is, because our Tangers and warblers have always been lovely to me. But this weaver and the Barbet - they break on my January eyes like fireworks. My very favorite is the woven ball, though. I am fascinated.
ReplyDeleteEvery time you put up pictures of the chickens, I am cheered. Our puppies also dig up the barrels, but they have no hope of being considered special afterwards, even with an emoticon.
The yarn - luscious. You just do these things that seem so magical to me. Especially today. A little pressure in the head; no energy. I look at your page here, and I just sit on the floor like a lump, considering my useless and limp life. (But at the core of me, I am actually refreshed by your imagination, color and kind energy - if you understand what I mean).
Thank you for sharing these beautiful birds with us! Wow! and the fun suspense of the giveaways! cool!
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing the great pics of birds in your place... we have 1 foot of snow, and this is a glimmer of spring... Wool would be nice too!

I love your masked weaver bird - how wonderful to have him there making a perfect Waldorf home from the bounty of your garden! I am new to knitting and would love to start a knitted tea set for my boy with the stunning yarn you have spun. Thank you. Rosie x

ReplyDeleteBeautiful colours, both in the amazing birds you have photographed and in the yarn you have made. The asked weaver's nest is just amazing!
ReplyDeleteNot sure what to do now.
ReplyDeleteYou must know by now how much I love your posts, just by my sporadic barmy comments.
I have just finished a little doll (well I still have to do a head and hands - but I'm waiting for summer to end so I can pilfer a T-shirt from the girls for the cotton) from local cape hand-spun wool and would love to create something beautiful with your wool. Or I might just look at it for a while - it is so beautiful.
But after reading Suzana's comment I would probably have to knit at least a couple of rainbow balls for Zenzeleni Waldorf School in Khayalitcha - they don't have much real wool out that way either...
Wow, I love it. I'm definitely in

Linda I love seeing pictures of the birdlife in your garden. We were in Australia over Christmas and so enjoyed hearing Kookaburras calling, magpies warbling and even the really rowdy crows and cockatoos. Here on Guam my kids get excited about sparrows and the odd pidgeon. But if anyone is interested google 'KoKo for Cocos' and you can learn about a recovery and release program for Guam native birds.
ReplyDeleteCheers
