Dear Friends,
Welcome to Creative Friday!
I am really enjoying this space on a Friday where everyone can come over and 'share the love' and link their blog to a tutorial, recipe or crafty process they have created. It can be new or old and can be anything you would like to share, knitting, sewing, craft, art, anything creative is most welcome:)
Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful talent with us! Just add the name of your blog to the widget and then add your blog link with the http:// at the beginning of your link address:) I have added a button on the side of my blog, please feel free to add it to your blog for Creative Friday and link it to http://www.naturalsuburbia.blogspot.com/

Looking forward to all your amazing creativity:)

My Drum Carder is here!

I am so excited!
It has arrived!!
I went to the post office to post off some parcels and it was there waiting for me! I have been wanting a drum carder for AGES... but the hefty price tag has always stopped me, but then my friend Carle' sent me an email to let me know someone was selling theirs and the price was perfect and so was the carder. Thank you so much to Jean for selling me this beautiful treasure, I love it and cannot wait to use it:) And thank you so much to Carle' who packaged it up and sent it to me, you are wonderful!

I think I am going to try some fibre on it tomorrow, I am so looking forward to this new learning experience. Off to stare at it some more... It is a thing of beauty you know:)
Have an inspired day:)

WIP Wednesday Knitting

The weather is cooling down quite a lot here, and that means that all our indigenous plants are coming into bloom! This is an Aloe plant that Erin is admiring. They have amazing healing properties and they attract the most wonderful birdlife, sunbirds etc... with long beaks, too beautiful.

Today was the first day we have had sunshine in a while, we went straight outside with our new little chickens and let them scratch around on the leaves and the grass. They looked very happy! The above photo is of Jenna's fingerless gloves that I am finishing off for winter, a lovely pattern, you can find here.

These are Kye's slipper socks that I am knitting. I have used the pattern from the Children's Year and simply knitted the foot of the slipper in the round which makes it so much easier and means less sewing up, which is great! This is such an amazing book to have as part of your home library, essential I think:)
Yes, the bottom of the finished sock is a little soiled because Kye was so excited that I was knitting these for him, he has been wearing the one finished slipper sock with his socks until I am finished the other one! Sweet! I am almost finished the second slipper sock and then he will have two! It is such an easy pattern, you can just knit to your foot size:) Love it!

Chickens!

They have arrived!
Our sweet new special girls are here:)
We went to fetch them yesterday, they are 6 week old Hi Line (future) egg layers. Four are brown and white and only one is pure white. I love listening to the sweet little sounds that they make. They already have names and each child has chosen one for their own. They will love all of these chickens and I am sure these girls will grow up to be as tame as our last ones that we brought home. Our older ones are all mostly retired now and spend their days sand bathing and lying in the sun. As soon as these new ones are big enough, we will intergrate them with the others.
Having chickens has also been a wonderful learning experience for our children and our family, chickens are very entertaining to watch. They do such amazing things, the way they bask in the sun and follow us around the garden is wonderful. If you don't have chickens yet, I highly recommend them!
You can see our other chickens and their house here.
Today was an exceptionally rainy and cold day, I did manage to send in my submission for Rhythm of the Home online Magazine though, yay! I had such fun putting this creation together:)

Happy Monday everyone:)

Rainy Saturday

It has been raining all day here today, with the sun peeking out from the clouds only once or twice. Erin and Caiden went to visit friends for a picnic and Jen and Kye stayed home with Richard and I, they are still quite ill, Jen's tonsils are swollen and Kye is coughing quite a lot. The elderberry syrup I made is working nicely though and we visited our local health shop to stock up on homoeopathic remedies to nurse these little ones back to health. We lit a fire today and made the lounge toasty and warm...

The girls have been loving building these card structures. I am amazed at how high they can go!

The concentration is incredible...(I must add, no one is allowed to move in the room when cards are built this high, in case there is a sudden draught of air :)

Jenna actually built hers all the way to the top, but I wasn't fast enough with my camera and they all toppled down. I have also been working on my submission for Rhythm of the Home Magazine today:)
Have a wonderful weekend everyone:)

Happy May Day!

Warmly
Linda
