My Studio

Here it is... the studio... we have been working on it for the last few days. It is a cozy little spot, I love it!

Guss snuck in while I was spinning this afternoon to keep me company. Remember the Roman blind I was busy with a few months ago? Well there it is above the window, I still need to finish another one for the other window, it is twice the size so I guess I am a little daunted but I will set to work on it in a few days:)

Superwash roving that's been separated to spin...

Here is the superwash on the Ashford...

And finally... drum roll... here are The Shelves! I must say, I really LOVE how they look. They were origionally coat racks but we have turned them upside down and repurposed them as shelves. The little blue and white sewing box on the shelf has been my sewing box since I was 8 years old, I have often thought about replacing it, but I am very fond of that little sewing box, so I am sure I will be using it for many years to come. I remember my mom bought it for me at a market one Sunday...
These shelves hold a few of my spinning, sewing and kintting books and a small amount of my fabric stash, but oh how I adore them! (Too much? No... I think I am gushing just the right amount) :)

Under the table you can see Kye's little wooden town and pirate ship, he often joins me in my studio and we have the most wonderful conversations:)

The winner of the giveaway will be posted on the origional giveaway post later tonight:)

Thanks so much for having a wander through my studio with me...

Tuesday...

Thank you so much for everyones beautiful comments that have been left since yesterday for the giveaway, I cherish them :) You are all so kind! Today we had the most tremendous electrical storm, lightning and thunder and then we looked under the sideboard table and Charlie and Sandy were fast asleep... so precious, I just love the paw over Charlie's face...

Here is a shelf update, the Oregon shelves have been sanded and oiled and are looking quite superb, thanks to my wonderful husband. I love old furniture, it is so solid and full of character and history, I always wonder where it used to live and what the people were like who owned it before it made its journey to us... We are going to take them into my studio tonight and attach them to the walls, at last I have somewhere to pack my books...(she says with glee...)
I have just listed some new items in my shop, floral fat quarters of South African quilting fabric and undyed South African Merino roving, (so soft) ...
If you missed entering the giveaway yesterday you still have time to enter here, I will be choosing a winner tomorrow, the yarn below is the giveaway item, the softest Camel Silk :)

Do all have a lovely day, I am off to put up shelves:)

Spinning, The Studio and a Giveaway...

Yesterday I started spinning on my new Joy Spinning Wheel, wow, I love it! It's quite different to my Traditional Ashfords, but once you get the hang of it you're on your way. I am busy sorting out my studio at the moment, I can't wait for everything to be in order, I really need shelves and we have been looking all over, you know the ones that are attached to the wall and not free standing? Well we gave up trying to find them today and then I remembered a few years ago, someone gave us some really old Oregon pine shelves! We have pulled them out and my love (Richard) has been sanding them down for me this afternoon. I can't wait for them to be finished, I will post photos soon. It is so wonderful to have a room where I can work... at least all my fabric and yarn can be in one place and hopefully, tidy:)  It is so sweet how my little ones pop in to visit while I am working in the studio and then they like to also be busy with some or other craft or handwork. Caiden made a felt wallet yesterday while I was spinning, he enjoys sewing so much. While we were out yesterday we went to a thrift shop and  I found the perfect chair for my sewing table, I just adore thrift shops, I could spend hours in them.

I bought this beautiful Camel Silk roving form Felt Studio UK and have so enjoyed spinning it.

The Summer Blouse is Finished!

I had no intention of posting a second post today but then I finished the Summer Blouse for Jen and I was just so excited at how it turned out that I had to blog it! OK, this is my first attempt at a garment, so please, all the experienced sewists, forgive my obvious errors, (blush) I do intend to improve... I really enjoyed this project, it was so meditative in a way, setting everything out and slowly piecing it together. Jen is really happy with her new blouse, so this of course made it all worth it for sure! It is really difficult to see the print on the fabric in the photos, but I did post a photo of it here. I am also very grateful for the comments from readers who made me aware of the errata pages that are avaliable, this was such a great help especially with the sleeves as some of the markings were missing off the pattern and this would have confused me to no end, thanks so much!
Hope you are all having a wonderful New Years day.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! Wishing you all the most inspired 2011:)
Much love
Linda
