We have had overcast, rainy weather for the last four days and it has been really cold here in South Africa. My hubby is home from his race and we are all so happy to have him here with us:)
I thought I would put a little Spring tutorial together for everyone who is moving into spring and summer in the north. This could even be an Autumn or Winter acorn gnome if you changed the colours to suit the season:) I really enjoyed making this little gnome, he has brightened up our day, enjoy the process:)
Materials:
Scissors
Spare felt pieces
Small tack nails
Cork
Acorn
Needle and thread
Hammer
I attached the acorn to the cork with a metal pin / tack.
Cut a piece of felt the height of your cork and wrap it around before you cut it to make sure it fits all the way around.
I have sewed it on with blanket stitch.
Cut another wider piece for your gnomes jacket, also the height of your cork.
Sew along the top of the jacket / cape and then pull your sewing thread tight to gather the felt.
Sew on the cape.
I have sewn around the cape in blanket stitch.
Cut out little petal shapes from your felt pieces. (I always save my scraps of felt:)
Start sewing them together on the top.
All sewn together with a green felt stem on the top.
I folded two petals back and sewed them securely where the little gnomies face will be.
And there he is!
Enjoy!
Happy Tuesday everyone:)
Warmly
Linda

Dear Ariella,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your very kind comment:) I have this felt especially custom made for my local yarn shop by a wonderful artist in South Africa. Her work is beautiful:)

Linda,
ReplyDeleteThat is so cute. Thank you for sharing this wonderful project.
Warm wishes, Tonya
This is absolutely adorable!!
ReplyDeleteWhere do you get your rainbow felt? Do you make it yourself? I'm tellin' ya. They don't sell that at our local fabric store. :D
Ummm, guess I shoulda read the comments before I asked about the felt..... :D
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet little acorn gnome : )
ReplyDeleteI love the felt too!
How inspired, and inspiring. The flower cap is darling! And I like how you created your own form using recycled and found objects.
ReplyDeletelovely gnom!!!
ReplyDeleteooh! i love him!! so kind of you to humor us northerners. i'm sure it would be lovely in autumnal colors as well. ;)
ReplyDeleteHow cute! I like that this gnome doesn't require those little wood forms. I know some people have a hard time finding those.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully made, just delightful. cheers Marie
ReplyDeleteThat is the cutest thing ever! Thanks for the tutorial, it was fascinating to see how you make that little gnome.
ReplyDeleteHe's gorgeous!!! I LOVE him!
ReplyDeleteBlessings and magic,
Donni
clever you, he is lovely.
ReplyDeleteHmmm - and he could be a wise man ornament on a Christmas tree, also. So we must remember him six or so months from now. It's probably as cold here as it is there now. I spent a good 3/4 hour in the hail and sleet putting up pasture fence this morning for horses who have had enough of dry hay, and are almost mad, seeing all that lush grass coming up just on the other side of the arena fence. And the wind is blowing. A very soggy, chilly day, this.
ReplyDeleteYour gnome's colors are a treat for the eye.
I wonder if somewhere between us - around the equator - people are having weather that is mild and benign?
Oh, I forgot to ask - how was the race? Did he get soaked? Did you say he was riding up in the mountain areas? I'm so glad he's home. I was worried about that - elevation can be ticky this time of the year. Didn't want him stuck in freak snow -
ReplyDeleteWonderful tutorial! So precious. :)
ReplyDeleteDear K,
ReplyDeleteRichard's race was pretty tough, it was raining the whole weekend, lots of mud and it was cold. He loved it though:) Thanks so much for asking:)
Warmly
Linda
Oh, I love her! She is so dear!
ReplyDeleteI would like to experiment a bit more with wool felts, as I have used wool roving in my needle felting for some time now...but, I've never tried any sewing with wool felt.
Love, love, love your little lady!!
Hi Linda, I love this little doll! I placed a link on my weblog to your site, hope you don't mind ...
