Spirit the White Wolf Pattern and Giveaway

Today I have been designing and knitting Spirit, he is a white wolf. I have always wanted to add a wolf to my menagerie of animal knitting patterns and now here he is!

He is knitted both flat and in the round, if you prefer knitting flat, there are additional instructions added in the pattern for flat knitting. I have knitted him in a brushed Mohair yarn which is pliable and gives him a furry wolf appearance.

His pattern is available in my Etsy shop Mamma4earth.

Creative Friday

Knitted Daisy Flower

I am almost finished knitting flower patterns for my 'Knitting Flowers' e-book, this is the daisy pattern I worked on yesterday. I love Daisy flowers, they are happy little blooms. I am so excited to share this e-book with you, I can't wait in fact! I am just kitting up a rose bud pattern and then the book will be complete and sent off to the publishers next week. For now I am checking spelling and grammar, making sure I have the correct font, line spacing and picture size.
PS Let me know if there is a specific flower you would like included and perhaps I can add just one more:) I know, I can't help it, knitting flowers is addictive!

A New Pattern for a Dolphin called Sifiso and a Giveaway

I had some time this morning to take out my knitting needles and knit a new pattern I've been thinking about. Richard took the boys to visit their sisters at a scout camp that they are attending for the weekend. It's called Kon-tiki, there are over 800 scouts attending this camp and they are building water rafts, it is amazing to see!

So, I poured a cup of tea, took out my trusty iPad and started knitting and typing.

Some dolphin facts:
Dolphins aren't fish, they are mammals, warm blooded, give birth to live young and feed their calves milk. They breathe air through a blow hole on the top of their body unlike fish who have gills on the sides of their neck area. Dolphins are very social and swim together in large groups called pods. They are very intelligent creatures.

I have named this dolphin Sifiso, translated from the Zulu language, it means 'Hope'.

His body is knitted in 1 piece and the flippers and fin are knitted separately and sewn on.
The eyes are needle felted on with a felting needle and fleece or you could sew them on with yarn and a needle. He measures 7 inches from his snout to the end of his tail, and he is 4 inches tall.

Thulani, the Rhino

Meet Thulani, the Rhino, the name Thulani means 'peace' in the Zulu language. This is a very special pattern and holds great meaning for me. I am sure you are aware of the barbaric poaching of Rhino that occurs here in South Africa. Rhino are brutally hunted and poached for their horns, last year 448 Rhino were killed and this year so far the numbers are increasing. I have knitted Thulani to raise funds to donate to an organisation called Stop Rhino Poaching Now. For each Rhino pattern that is sold in any of my pattern shops, I will be donating $ 1.00 to this fund. I will also be knitting up a limited number of Rhino to sell in my Mamma4earth Etsy shop and a portion of the sale money will be donated as well.

Here is some more information about the pattern:

Thulani is knitted flat on 2 needles in stocking stitch in aran weight wool, the horns are knitted in the round with the magic loop or you can knit them on DPNs in the round. The eyes are needle felted on with fleece and a felting needle or you could sew them on with wool and a needle.

Finished measurements:
4.5 inches tall and 8 inches from tail to horn

The pattern is 17 pages long with plenty of photos to guide you.

I just adore this one! I keep saying this every time your new pattern comes out but, they are all so brilliant. they look just like what they are supposed too! You should do a pangolin! Those animals are amazing.

Creative Friday

Can you see Gus on the chair in my studio? Oh yes he is pretending to be invisible and attempting to blend in with the scenery:)

Welcome to Creative Friday!

Today I am writing about a new design I have been working on this past week, he is a Jack Russell dog called Gus. We have a Gus just like this, he is a sweet, stocky little fellow and we love him...

When knitted up, he stands 3.5 inches tall and almost 5 inches from snout to tail. He is knitted flat with two straight 4 mm needles and does have colour work on his body and face. His tail is knitted as an i-cord with 2 double pointed needles. He is stuffed with Merino fleece and his nose and eyes are needle felted on with black fleece and a felting needle.
